Notes from @TheUdog: This week I have had the misfortune of pneumonia, which I wouldn't wish upon anyone. Most of my work has been put on hold as I do my best to recover, watching films such as 'Die Hard 2' and 'Young Adults'. Meanwhile, NPR has released their list of the top albums for the year (as voted by us) and it comes as little surprise to see Jack White at the top of the list - his eclectic approach to music, his guarded honesty and flippant lies - all combine to create incredible intrigue, adding depth to talent. It was also good to see The Shins and Norah Jones ranked highly in the top twenty as well. This week we have a great mix of music for you once again, starting where we left off last week with Maps and Atlases and going through to hear more from Tallest Man On Earth + all-new music by Purity Ring, Langhorne Slim, The Dandy Warhols and more!

Maps and Atlases
"Remote and Dark Years"
Beware and Be Grateful
Barsuk
Note: "Remote and Dark Years" comes off the band's sophomore album 'Beware and Be Grateful'. Maps and Atlases have been described as a 'math rock' band which may be the best description for a sound that is both technical and organic.

Fidlar
"Got No Money"
Don't Try EP
Mom and Pop
Note: These Californian party rockers are a refreshing change from the over-popular 'wigglers', with honesty and purity in their music that lacks the cynical edge whilst still retaining the kitsch and (sub)cultural flair. The band is currently touring with The Hives, and I highly recommend watching their clip for "West Coast" on the tube.

The Shackletons
"Lights"
Mum
Loveless
Note: Rolling Stone has suggested that the band is a wild-eyed fusion of The Pixies and The White Stripes! The Shackletons come from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and named themselves after the Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton.
(More Info)

Jaill
"Waste A Lot Of Things"
Traps
Sub Pop
Note: 'Traps' is the bands third album and it follows on from their 2010 success with 'That's How We Burn', which featured Ryan Adams who joined the group for a while in 2009-10. The band added the second 'L' when asked by their label (Sub Pop) to change their name due to a European band of 40 years prior having the same name.

Bahamas
"Lost In The Light"
Barchords
Nevado
Note: Self-taught guitarist Afie Jurvanen, aka Bahamas, has worked with musicians such as Feist, Howard Beck and Zeus. 'Barchords' is his sophomore album and was #17 on Exclaim's 20 Most Anticipated Canadian Albums of 2012.

Dana Buoy
"So Lucky"
'Summer Bodies'
Lefse Records
Note: 'Summer Bodies' is the debut album for Dana Buoy and was recently released on vinyl. After a decade as a percussionist for Akron/Family, Danny Janssen recorded the album in Thailand whilst living on a jungle lagoon, the album was written by expanding on hopeful love notes recorded on an answering machine in Oregon. Dana Buoy has announced he will be a part of the PDX Pop Now! Festival in Portland this July.

Lianne La Havas
"Tease Me"
'Live in L.A.'
Labour of Love/Warner Bros.
Note: "Tease Me" comes off a 2011 EP 'Live in L.A' but the English soul/folk singer is set to release her debut album 'Is Your Love Big Enough' in the coming weeks. Daughter of a Greek father and a Jamaican mother, La Havas has associated with Bon Iver, Willy Mason and Paloma Faith and was nominated for the BBC Sound of 2012 award.

Langhorne Slim and the Law
"The Way We Move"
'The Way We Move'
Ramseur
Note: With successes like being listed as #5 on Rolling Stone's Editor's Top Ten Picks (with "Electric Love Letter") as well as having tour mates such like Rocky Votolato and The Violent Femmes amongst others - Sean Scolnick aka Langhorne (his Pennsylvania hometown) Slim is no stranger to success. With diverse influences like David Bowie and Wu-Tang Clan contributing to the album's feel, the website describes it as "life affirming rock and roll."
(More Info)

Purity Ring
"Fineshrine"
'Shrines'
4AD
Note: "Fineshrine" is the second track off the group's debut album. Described as indie electronic, the band is composed of Megan James on vocals and Corrin Roddick on the instrumentals. Purity Ring is a side-project/breakaway group built out of Gobble Gobble after Roddick began to experiment with R&B and Hip-Hop. 'Shrines' is set to be released on the 24th of July.
(More Info)

Zulu Winter
"Silver Tongue"
'Language'
PIAS
Note: This five-piece from London formed in 2011 and have already generated a lot of buzz, including being Zane Lowe's Hottest Record in the World in January and announcing their role as support act on the latest Keane tour. Their debut album 'Language' was released on the 14th of May 2012.

Tallest Man on Earth
"Just Grow Away"
'There's No Leaving Now'
Dead Oceans
Note: Kristian Matsson - the Swedish born singer-songwriter known as Tallest Man on Earth - makes his second appearance on PUTV with "Just Grow Away", the first track off the third studio album 'There's No Leaving Now', released June 11th to mainly positive reviews. Pitchfork suggests that the album is like an adventure close to home, the sound of someone exploring the nature trail in their own backyard.
(More Info)

Eternal Summers
"Millions"
'Correct Behavior'
Kanine
Note: "Millions" is the opening track from the band's sophomore album "Correct Behavior" which is set to be released on the 24th of July. The film clip for "Millions" was directed by Johnny Woods and features the girls from the Roanoke, Virginia trio firing guns and decimating cakes with shovels.
(More Info)

Gigamesh
"Dream On"
'All My Life EP'
Kitsune
Note: Perhaps best known for his remix work, Matthew Thomas Masurka - aka Gigamesh, is a multi-platinum DJ from Minneapolis. The film clip to this song is well worth a look, it is a highly sexualized re-imagination of the 1980s paying homage to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and "Fantasia" among other things. Among his remix work includes Mike Posner's "Cooler Than Me".
(More Info)

Delta Rae
"Bottom of the River"
'Carry the Fire'
Sire
Note: Formed in North Carolina the band includes siblings Ian, Eric and Brittany Holljes and Elizabeth Hopkins (both on vocals), Mike Mckee and Grant Emerson. The name of the band originates from a story Holljes' mother told about a southern girl who summoned Greek gods. The video clip for "Bottom of the River" has a Nick Cave-y vibe to it with a period piece feel that clashes with its contemporary sensibility.
(More Info)

Dandy Warhols
"Well They're Gone"
'This Machine'
Beat The World/The End
Note: "No, I haven't heard your band - cause you guys are pretty new" is what I might have said if I was living in Portland in 1994. Since that time The Dandy Warhols have had some big success with a number of hits and world tours. 'This Machine' is the band's first album in two years and was announced while in Sydney during the group's Australian tour. "Well They're Gone" is the fifth track on the record and was written by lead singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor. 'This Machine' has received mixed reviews and is unlikely to outshine their bigger, earlier hits like "Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth" and "Bohemian Like You" - although some critics have suggested that musically the band has improved with age.
