Note: Previously associated with Bon Iver, Megafaun and others, Chris Porterfield moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin thinking his music career had ended. To the contrary, Porterfield has managed to successfully launch a self titled LP and will finish his schooling, quit his job and begin life as a professional musician this summer. Field Report (the album) was recorded in Justin Vernon’s studio and it was produced by Paul Koderie. Stereogum says: "No word yet on when 'Field Report' is out, but this is a promising start."

Note: 'The Looking Away' is the sophomore album from Animal Kingdom and is their first release since 2009. This track has been described as using crashing cymbals and power beats to create “dreamy pop” with an “epic feel.” Whilst fully embracing the age of digital promotion and exploiting their internet presence through Amazon, iTunes, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube et al, the band also advocate buying the record from your local record store. KCRW says: "London's Animal Kingdom create dreamy pop with an epic feel thanks to crashing cymbals and power beats."

Along with Van Zandt, Newbury, Jimmy Webb and Randy Newman all these musicians have had an influence on 'From the Ground Up' contributing to a musical style that defies genre.

Note: Every now and again we are lucky enough to play the music emanating from those with the stature of a Lenoard Cohen, Lisa Marie Presley or, as recently as last week, Soul Asylum. This week we are thrilled to 'spin' Stan Ridgway’s latest cut – "Mr. Trouble". Originally of Wall of Voodoo fame, Ridgway’s work since has reflected his talents as a storyteller, as well as a musician. Undoubtedly, Ridgway has earned his spot as one of America’s leading neo-noir artists; Some even consider him the wild whiskey swilling Steinbeck for our the contemporary age! Mr. Trouble features Bill Blatt, Enrico Deiro, Bruce Zelesnik, Ralph Carney, Rick King and Pietra Wexstun to complement Stan.

They have recently performed with the likes of Devandra Banhart, Noah and the Whale, Kimbra and Gotye to name a few.

Note: Signed to TBD Records who boast among their ranks the likes of Port O’Brien, Other Lives and Radiohead. Their latest effort, 'Twenty-Five For The Rest Of Our Lives', is hot off the presses being released on the 26th of July 2012. The Henry Clay People are a quartet from LA and feature brothers Joey and Andy Siara as the songwriting duo behind the band. “We wanted to finally make the record that our sixteen year old selves would have been excited about,” says Joey. “Unfortunately the only way to do so was to live for the last 13 years and get some adult suffering under our belt. Now we can direct our misguided teenage angst at our failed 20’s.”

Note: Growing from a trio to a quartet as Julia Ruzicka from Million Dead joins Andy Falkous, Jack Egglestone and Kelson Mathias. 'The Plot Against Common Sense' is the title of their third studio album and their first since departing 4AD. Currently set to tour Europe this summer, the band has been fortified with the addition of Ruzicka and Xtra Mile Recordings has suggested that “whether [or not the band is] cutting you down with scarring remarks at a live show, or filling the studio with lung blood and instrument abuse, Future of the Left are vital, not to be missed or to be ignored.”

Note: Liam Benzvi of Brooklyn and Francis Jimenez of Minneapolis are the duo that is Strange Names. Both graduates from the University of Minneapolis, the two gained some success in the UK before radio play in the US was a catalyst for hiring band members for live shows. Currently the duo are working with Chris Heidman to produce their next EP. This group have only played a handful of shows to date, in fact their debut show was in March 2012!

Note: Niyaz, meaning 'yearning' in Persian and Urdu, is a band from Iran that was formed in 2005 by vocalist Azam Ali; the group also features Grammy-nominated producer Carmen Rizzo. 'Sumud', the group's third album, is Arabic for 'steadfastness' and is devoted to themes and philosophies of peaceful resistance. Ali chose this title as a symbolic reminder that every human being should inherit the right to live with dignity and freedom upon the land on which they are born. Media Monarchy, Corbett Report, Tragedy and Hope all echo this sentiment.
